Let X be a Hilbert space and T be an operator on X, then the approximate point spectrum of T is defined as \[ \sigma_{ap}(T):=\{\lambda \in {\mathbb{C}}:\inf \{\| (\lambda I-T)x\|:x\in X,\| x\| =1\}=0\}. \] In continuation of an earlier work of the author [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 308, 413-429 (1988)] in Banach spaces, he shows that if X is a Hilbert space, \(T\in L(X)\) and \(\epsilon\in (0,1)\), then there is a Hilbert space \(Y\supset X\) and an operator \(\tilde T\in L(Y)\) which extends T such that \(\| \tilde T\| \leq \| T\| (1+\epsilon)\), and moreover the spectrum of \(\tilde T\) is exactly the approximate point spectrum of T.
