Let G be a reductive algebraic group over a local field F of characteristic zero. The main part of the invariant orbital integral \[ \int_{G_{\gamma}(F)\setminus G(F)}f(x^{-1}\gamma x) dx,\quad \gamma \in G(F),\quad f\in C_ C^{\infty}(G) \] \((G_{\gamma}\) is the centralizer of \(\gamma\) in G) is obtained by integrating f with respect to the invariant measure on the conjugacy class of \(\gamma\). For the general trace formula, the analogous terms are weighted orbital integrals J which are obtained by integrating f but with respect to a measure which is not in general invariant. The author investigates in detail the differential equation and the germ expansion for J in the cases 1) F is an Archimedean field, 2) F is a p- adic field, respectively.
