    Let a be an element of a semigroup S. The monoid \(\Gamma (S^ 1a)\) of selfmaps of the left ideal \(S^ 1a\), given by all right translations \(s^*\) of \(S^ 1a\) such that \(S^ 1as\subseteq S^ 1a\), \(s\in S\), is called the Schützenberger monoid of the left ideal \(S^ 1a\). If X is a set, S a subsemigroup of the semigroup of all selfmaps of X and \(a\in S\), then the Schützenberger monoid \(\Gamma (S^ 1a)\) is isomorphic to a submonoid of the monoid \(T_ S(Xa)=\{s| Xa\); where \(s\in S^ 1\) and Xas\(\subseteq Xa\}\) where \(s| Xa\) denotes the restriction of s to Xa. It is also shown that if \(S^ 1a=Ta\cap S\) then \(\Gamma (S^ 1a)\) and \(T_ S(Xa)\) are isomorphic. If X is a universal algebra or topological space and \(S=End X\) then the equality \(aS^ 1=aT\cap S\), \(a\in S\), implies \(T_ S(Xa)=End(Xa)\).
