Let E be a real separable Banach space, let \({\mathcal K}(E)\) be the set of nonempty compact subsets of E, and let f:W\(\to {\mathcal K}(E)\) be upper semicontinuous. For integers \(k\geq 0\) and \(X\in {\mathcal K}(E)\), define \(f^ k(X)\) by \(f^ 0(X)=X\), \(f^ k(X)=f(f^{k-1}(X))\). A point \(x\in E\) is said to be a fixed point of order p if \(x\in F^ p(x)\) while \(x\not\in f^ k(x)\) for \(k=1,...,p-1\). The author presents rather technical conditions (supported by examples) which imply that f has fixed points either of all orders or of all orders sufficiently large. Analogous theorems are given where \({\mathcal K}(E)\) is replaced by the family \({\mathcal K}_ c(E)\) of all compact convex subsets of E. The proofs involve applications of well known fixed point theorems for multivalued mappings due to S. Nadler and S. Kakutani.
