The study of the flow of a compressible Newtonian fluid occurring either in an exterior domain and having a finite total mass or in a bounded region and with possibly vanishing density at a given point presents an evident mathematical and physical interest. However, so far, it has not been settled yet and, in particular, questions such as existence, uniqueness and stability have received only few partial answers. Because of intrinsic difficulties, one thus finds it of great relevance to perform the same kind of study within a different scheme which though allowing for varying density offers, nevertheless, some simplifications. The model we are referring to is the so called non-homogeneous, incompressible model, whose mathematical study has been recently made. The fundamental subject investigated in this paper is just the initial- boundary value problem describing the flow of a non-homogeneous incompressible Newtonian fluid when the density is allowed to satisfy conditions such as those described above.
