Existence theorems for nonlinear second order boundary value problems (Q916847)

The paper is concerned with nonlinear two-point boundary value problems \(y''=f(x,y,y')\), \(a\leq x\leq b\), \(g(y(a),y'(a))=0\), \(h(y(b),y'(b))=0\), where f, g, h are continuous functions. First, a priori bounds on solutions of initial value problems associated with \(y''=f(x,y,y')\) are established and then by means of shooting method and the Kneser-Hukahara theorem the existence results for BVPs are proved. Some applications of the existence theorems are given to linear boundary conditions and examples connected with the theory are shown. The obtained results unify and extend the previous ones of several authors.
