    The discrepancy of a signed measure \(\nu\) in Euclidean space \(E^ d\) with \(\nu (E^ d)=0\) and \(| \nu | (E^ d)<\infty\) is defined by \[ D_ s(\nu)=\sup \{| \nu (H)| :\;H\quad an\quad open\quad half\quad space\}. \] The author gives a lower estimate of \(D_ s(\nu)\) if \(\nu\) is supported by a finite point set. Further, if m denotes Lebesgue measure restricted to a disk D in \(E^ 2\) of unit area and \(\gamma_ n\) the uniform distribution on n points in D then he obtains \(nD_ s(m-\gamma_ n)\quad \geq \quad 0.335n^{1/4}.\) This improves an earlier result from the literature.
