We prove a modification of the Chernavskiĭ-Edwards-Kirby deformation theorem for topological, bi-Lipschitz, and quasiconformal embeddings of an open subset of \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\) which are of small uniform distance from the inclusion map. As an application we confirm \textit{J. Väisälä}'s [Monatsh. Math. 107, 155-168 (1989; Zbl 0685.30010)] conjecture that two bi-Lipschitz maps \(f_ 0,f_ 1: {\mathbb{R}}^ n\to {\mathbb{R}}^ n\) are bi- Lipschitz isotropic if and only if \(f_ 0-f_ 1\) is bounded.
