Let \(X=C(T)\) be the Banach space of all real or complex-valued continuous functions defined on a compact Hausdorff space T containing at least \(n\in L\) distinct points endowed with the uniform norm. By M is denoted an n-dimensional subspace of C(T). In the case when T is a compact set of \(R_ 1\) or of \(r_ 2\), M is selected in a special way. For example if \(T\subset R_ 1\) and C(T) is real, then \(M=\{y\in \pi_ n:\epsilon_ jy^{(k_ j)}(t)\geq 0\) for \(t\in T\), and \(j=1,2,...,p\}\), where \(\pi_ n\) is the space of all real algebraic polynomials of degree n or less, \(1\leq K_ 1<K_ 2<...<K_ p<n\), \(p\geq 1\), \(\epsilon_ j=\pm 1\), \(j=1,2,...,p.\) It is proved, that if m is a best approximation to \(x\in C(T)\), then m is an element of strongly unique best approximation of order 2, that is there exists a constant \(c=c_ M(x)>0\) such that \(\| x-m\|^ 2\leq \| x-y\|^ 2-c\| m-y\|^ 2\) for all y in M. In addition the problem of the continuity of the metric projection of C(T) onto M is studied.
