Let K be a smooth, compact and strictly convex set in \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\) and consider the problem in \({\mathcal O}=R^ n\setminus K\) \[ (D_ t- \Delta)u=0\text{ in } R^ n_+\times {\mathcal O};\quad u|_{R_+\times \partial {\mathcal O}}=0,\quad u|_{t=0}=f,\quad D_ tu|_{t=0}=g, \] where f,g are compactly supported in \({\mathcal O}\). The author considers the high frequency behavior of the stationary wave: \[ w(x,\lambda)=\int^{\infty}_{0}u(x,t)e^{-it\lambda} dt \] and characterizes the uniform behavior of w(x,\(\lambda\)) for x near both the obstacle and the shadow boundary. It is given the region where the direct wave is equal to the free wave. The reflected wave is described in terms of double expansions depending on the distances to the obstacle and to the shadow boundary. The diffracted wave is expressed in terms of conormal distributions singular at ``infinite frequencies'' and at the shadow boundary.
