The inverse heat conduction problem (IHCP) is investigated using a sequential function specification finite element method. In the sequential function specification, the future temperatures are sampled at smaller time intervals than the time step. This new method allows for diffusive time lag and improves the temporal resolution and accuracy of the inverse solution.
