    Let \({\mathcal K}(r)\), \(0<r<1\), be the complete elliptic integral and \(m(r)=(2/\pi) (1-r^2){\mathcal K}(r){\mathcal K}(r')\), \(r'=\sqrt{1-r^2}\). The authors prove that the function \(f(r)=[m(r)+\log r]/r'\) is strictly decreasing and concave from \((0,1)\) onto \((0,\log 4)\). They also consider the function \[ \lambda(K)=\left(\frac {\mu^{-1}\bigl(\pi/(2K) \bigr)}{\mu^{-1}(\pi K/2)}\right)^2,\quad \mu(r)=\frac {\pi{\mathcal K} (r')}{2{\mathcal K}(r)},\;K>1, \] which measures the distortion of the boundary values of a \(K\)-quasiconformal self-mapping of the upper half plane preserving the point at infinity. In particular, if \(a=(4/\pi){\mathcal K} (1/\sqrt 2)^2=4.376\dots\), they prove that \[ \lambda(K)<K\exp\bigl[(a-1)(K-1)\bigr],\;K>1. \]
