The object of this paper is the moduli space \({\overline M}_{0,1}({\mathbb P}^n,d)\) of \(1\)-pointed stable degree \(d\) maps from a connected nodal rational curve to the projective space \({\mathbb P}^n\). These moduli spaces were introduced, for stable maps from curves of any genus with an arbitrary number of marked points to a fixed smooth projective variety, by \textit{M. Kontsevich} and \textit{Yu. Manin} [Commun. Math. Phys. 164, No. 3, 525--562 (1994; Zbl 0853.14020)], see also \textit{W. Fulton} and \textit{R. Pandharipande} [Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 62(2), 45--96 (1997; Zbl 0898.14018)]. The main result of the paper under review is a description of the Chow ring with rational coefficients of \({\overline M}_{0,1}({\mathbb P}^n,d)\), as the invariant part of a ring \(B^*({\overline M}_{0,1}({\mathbb P}^n,d);{\mathbb Q})\) with respect to an action of the symmetric group in \(d\) letters. The ring \(B^*({\overline M}_{0,1}({\mathbb P}^n,d);{\mathbb Q})\) is explicitly described by giving a complete set of generators and relations. The proof relies on the study of a sequence of moduli spaces \({\overline M}_{0,1}({\mathbb P}^n,d,k)\). Note that the authors extended this construction to \(m\)-pointed stable maps from rational curves to \({\mathbb P}^n\) [The Chow ring of \({\overline M}_{0,m}(n,d)\), \texttt{math.AG/0507464}].
