Let \(G= \exp{\mathfrak g}\) be an exponential solvable Lie group with Lie algebra \({\mathfrak g}\) and \(H= \exp{\mathfrak h}\) its analytic subgroup. Starting from a unitary character \(\chi\) of \(H\), the authors consider the induced representation \(\tau= \text{ind}^G_H\chi\). Concerning the canonical disintegration of \(\tau\) into irreducibles, namely \(\tau= \int^{\oplus}_{\widehat G} m(\pi)\pi \,d\mu(\pi)\), the authors describe in terms of the orbit method the Borel measure \(\mu\) on the unitary dual \(\widehat G\) of \(G\) and the multiplicity function \(m(\pi)\) [cf. \textit{H. Fujiwara}, The orbit method in representation theory, Progr. Conf., Copenhagen 1988, Prog. Math. 82, 61--84 (1990; Zbl 0744.22010)]. There exists an element \(f\) in the linear dual \({\mathfrak g}^*\) of \({\mathfrak g}\) such that \(\chi(\exp X)= e^{-2\pi if}(X)\) \((X\in{\mathfrak h})\). We put \(\Gamma_f= f+{\mathfrak h}^\perp\) in \({\mathfrak g}^*\). This paper contains two main results. The first one concerns the multiplicity function \(m(\pi)\), and the second one presents a method to write down an explicit intertwining operator between \(\tau\) and its disintegration. \(G\) acts on \({\mathfrak g}^*\) by the coadjoint representation and for \(\phi\in{\mathfrak g}^*\) we denote by \({\mathfrak g}(\phi)\) the Lie algebra of the stabilizer of \(\phi\) in \(G\) . The authors say that the triplet \((G,H,f)\) is adapted if \({\mathfrak g}(\phi)+{\mathfrak h}\) is a polarization at \(\phi\in{\mathfrak g}^*\) almost everywhere in \(\Gamma_f\) with respect to the Lebesgue measure. Assuming that the triplet \((G,H,f)\) is adapted, the authors give a necessary and sufficient condition for the finiteness of the multiplicities \(m(\pi)\). Secondly, they give a concrete intertwining operator in question and its inverse when \(H\) is a maximal subgroup of \(G\), namely when there is no other analytic subgroup between \(H\) and \(G\).
