The authors consider systems \[ u'_i(t)=g_i(t,u(t),u)\text{ for a.e. }t\in J=[t_0, t_1] \] under the functional initial condition \[ u_i(t_0)=B_i(u(t_0), u), i=1,\dots, m, u=(u_1,\dots,u_m). \] Replacing the argument \(u\) by a fixed function \(v\), the authors prove the existence of least and greatest solutions of the auxiliary problem and its dependence on \(v\). Then, by employing a fixed point theorem introduced by \textit{X. Liu } [J. Appl. Math. Simulation 2, No.~3, 185--198 (1989; Zbl 0688.45015)], the main existence theorem can be established. A concrete example is included to illustrate the generality of the obtained result when compared with those derived by \textit{P. Pikuta} and \textit{W. Rzymowski} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 277, No. 1, 122--129 (2003; Zbl 1026.34073)].
