A flow (that is, a strongly continuous one-parameter action) on a \(C^{*}\)-algebra \(A\) is said to have the Rohlin property if for all \(p\in\mathbb{R}\) there is a central sequence \(\{u_n\}\) in the unitary group of \(A\) such that \[ \lim_{n\to\infty} \max_{| t| \leq1}\| \alpha_{t}(u_{n})-e^{-ipt}u_{n}\| =0. \] In this paper, it is shown that there exist Rohlin flows on the Cuntz algebra \(\mathcal O_{\infty}\). (One of the authors has shown elsewhere that there are Rohlin flows on \(\mathcal O_{n}\) for \(n<\infty\) [see \textit{A. Kishimoto}, Int. J. Math. 13, No. 10, 1065--1094 (2002; Zbl 1057.46052); Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 25, No. 3, 823--859 (2005; Zbl 1092.46048)].) In more detail, a flow on \(\mathcal O_{\infty}=C^{*}(\{s_i\}_{i=1}^{\infty})\) is called quasi-free if \[ \alpha_{t}(s_{k})=e^{iP_{k}t}s_{k} \] for a sequence \(\{p_k\}\subset\mathbb R\). The main result states that if \(\{p_1,\dots,p_n\}\) generates \(\mathbb R\) for some \(n\), then the corresponding quasi-free action has the Rohlin property. As an immediate corollary, there also exist Rohlin flows on any purely infinite simple separable nuclear \(C^{*}\)-algebra \(A\) (since any such algebra satisfies \(A\otimes \mathcal O_{\infty}\cong A\) by a result of Kirchberg). Furthermore, the authors show that any two quasi-free Rohlin flows on \(\mathcal O_{\infty}\) are cocycle conjugate.
