\textit{C. Deninger} [Jahresber. Dtsch. Math.-Ver. 103, No. 3, 79--100 (2001; Zbl 1003.11029); in: Algebraic number theory and algebraic geometry. Papers dedicated to A. N. Parshin on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday. Contemp. Math. 300, 99--114 (2002; Zbl 1077.14022)] has suggested that to the Riemann zeta function \(\hat{\zeta}\left( s\right)\) (resp. the zeta function \(\zeta_Y\left( s\right)\) of a smooth projective curve \(Y\) over a finite field \(\mathbb{F}_q\), \(q=p^f\)) one could possibly associate a foliated Riemannian laminated space \(\left( S_{\mathbb{Q}},\mathcal{F},g,\phi^t\right)\) (resp. \(\left( S_Y,\mathcal{F},g,\phi_t\right)\)) endowed with an action of a flow \(\phi^t\) whose primitive compact orbits should correspond to the primes of \(\mathbb{Q}\) (resp. \(Y\)). The existence of such a foliated space and a flow \(\phi^t\) was proved only for the case of an elliptic curve. The author introduces a class of foliated laminated spaces \(\left( S=\frac{\mathcal{L}\times\mathbb{R}^{+*}}{q^2},\mathcal{F}, g,\phi^t\right)\) where \(\mathcal{L}\) is locally \(D\times\mathbb{Z}^m_p\), \(D\) being an open disk in \(\mathbb{C}\). Assuming that the leafwise harmonic forms on \(\mathcal{L}\) are locally constant transversely, the author proves a Lefschetz trace formula for the flow \(\phi^t\) acting on the leafwise Hodge cohomology \(H^j_t\) (\(0\leq j\leq 2\)) of \(\left( S,\mathcal{F}\right)\) that is very similar to the explicit formula for the zeta function of a (general) smooth curve over \(\mathbb{F}_q\). The author also proves that the eigenvalues of the infinitesimal generator of the action of \(\phi^t\) on \(H^1_t\) have the real part equal to \(\frac{1}{2}\).
