In the XIXth century, \textit{G.-H. Halphen} introduced a family of complex vector fields \(H(\alpha_{1},\alpha_{2},\alpha_{3})\) parametrized by complex numbers \(\alpha_{i}\) [C. R. Hebdomadaires Acad. Sci, XCII, 1404--1407 (1881; JFM 13.0290.02)]. Such a vector field along with the fields \(\sum_{i}\frac{\partial}{\partial z_{i}}\) and \(\sum_{i}z_{i}\frac{\partial}{\partial z_{i}}\) generates a three dimensional complex Lie algebra isomorphic to the Lie algebra of \(SL(2,C)\), the group of \(2\times 2\) complex matrices with determinant one. In the paper under review, the author uses these vector fields to prove some results on local and global holomorphic actions of \(SL(2,C)\) on three dimensional complex manifolds. The author also proves some properties of equivariant compactifications of homogeneous spaces of \(SL(2,C)\).
