    Let \(A\) be a symmetrizable Cartan matrix corresponding to a simple Lie algebra \(\mathfrak g\), and let \(\hat{\mathfrak g}\) be the associated non-twisted affine Kac-Moody algebra. The author considers the quantum affine algebra \(U_q(\hat{\mathfrak g})\) with the realization given by \textit{V. G. Drinfeld} [Sov. Math., Dokl. 36, No. 2, 212--216 (1988); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 296, 13--17 (1987; Zbl 0667.16004)]. It is defined a concept of a weak Hopf pairing between two algebras, both embedded in topological Hopf algebras with invertible antipodes. The aim of the paper is to construct the algebra \(U_q(\hat{\mathfrak g})\) from its positive Borel subalgebra by using a weak quantum double construction associated to a certain weak Hopf pairing. Also it is showed that the positive Borel subalgebra can be obtained by using a quantum shuffle construction similar to the one of \textit{M. Rosso} [Invent. Math. 133, No. 2, 399--416 (1998; Zbl 0912.17005)].
