Let \(\mathcal{M}\) be a von Neumann algebra equipped with a normal faithful state \(\varphi\) and let \(L_{p}(\mathcal{M},\varphi)\) be the associated noncommutative Haagerup \(L_{p}\)-space. The author proves maximal ergodic inequalities in \(L_{p}(\mathcal{M},\varphi)\) in Walker's framework [cf.\ \textit{T.\,E.\thinspace Walker}, J.~Funct.\ Anal.\ 150, No.\,1, 27--47 (1997; Zbl 0884.22002)]. These results are used to establish a noncommutative analogue of the pointwise ergodic theorem of \textit{A.\,Nevo} and \textit{E.\,M.\thinspace Stein} [Acta Math.\ 173, 135--154 (1994; Zbl 0837.22008)].
