In [Adv. Math. 202, 451--516 (2006; Zbl 1118.46060) and ibid. 202, 517--554 (2006; Zbl 1101.46045)], the authors have generalized the proof of the local index theorem of \textit{A. Connes} and \textit{H. Moscovici} [Geom. Funct. Anal. 5, No. 2, 174--243 (1995; Zbl 0960.46048)] to the case of spectral triples for a \(*\)-subalgebra of a semifinite von Neumann algebra using a function valued cocycle (called the resolvent cocycle). In the present paper it is shown that this resolvent cocycle is cohomologous to a multiple of the Chern character modulo a function holomorphic at a critical point. Then the authors pass to the associated residue cocycle and show that it represents the Chern character under the assumption of analytic continuation properties for zeta functions.
