Let \(R\) be a \(1\)-dimensional noetherian local ring. In the present paper, the authors study the condition that (\#) \(\text{Ext}^1_R(R/Q, R) \neq 0\) for any parameter ideal \(Q\). This is related to the conjecture: a noetherian local ring \(R\) is Cohen-Macaulay if there is a Cohen-Macaulay \(R\)-module of finite G-dimension, which was posed by the third author [Acta Math. Hung. 104, No. 4, 315--322 (2004; Zbl 1092.13018)]. In this paper, authors gave some sufficient conditions for (\#) to be true and examples of \(R\) not satisfying (\#).
