It is known that Cartan-Hadamard manifolds of pinched negative sectional curvature admit non-constant bounded \(p\)-harmonic functions. On the other hand, there are no non-constant positive \(p\)-harmonic functions on a complete Riemannian manifold with non-negative Ricci curvature. The goal of this paper is to study the \(p\)-Laplacian and the existence of various types of \(p\)-harmonic functions on submanifolds. A Riemannian manifold \(M\) is called \(p\)-hyperbolic if there exists a compact set \(K\subset M\) of positive \(p\)-capacity \(\text{Cap}_ p(K,M)=\inf_ u\int_ M\|\nabla u\|^ p d\mu\) relative to \(M\). If \(S\) is a Riemannian submanifold of a Riemannian manifold \(N\), the authors are looking for the most general intrinsic geometric condition on \(N\) and the most general extrinsic geometric condition on \(S\) such that \(S\) is \(p\)-hyperbolic. The condition for \(p\)-hyperbolicity is expressed in terms of upper support functions for the radial sectional curvatures of the ambient space and for the radial convexity of the submanifold. In the process of showing \(p\)-hyperbolicity the authors obtain explicit lower bounds on the \(p\)-capacity of finite annular domains of the submanifolds in terms of the drifted \(2\)-capacity of the corresponding annuli in the respective comparison spaces.
