Let \(M\) be a hypersurface in a simply connected space form \(\mathbb{M}(\kappa)\) of constant curvature \(\kappa= 0,1\) or \(-1\) and dimension \(n+ 1\geq 3\). It is proved that if the Ricci curvature of \(M\) satisfies the inequality \(\text{Ric}_M(u, u)\geq(n- 1)(\kappa+ (Au, u)^2)\) for every unit vector \(u\in TM\), where \(A\) is the Weingarten map of \(M\), then \(M\) is totally umbilic. The scalar curvature Scal of \(M\) satisfies the inequality \[ \text{Scal}_m\leq{n(n- 1)\over \text{vol}(S^{n-1})}\int_{U_mM}[\kappa+ (Au, u)^2] \] for every point \(m\in M\). Furthermore, the equality holds iff \(M\) is totally umbilic. As a corollary an inequality is obtained for Euler characteristic \(\chi(M)\) if \(n+ 1= 3\).
