This paper deals with the bifurcation to steady and time-periodic states in a model for a thin superconducting wire. The authors construct stationary solutions if \(I<I_c\) by using asymptotic expansions and multiple time-scales. Additional information is provided for the center manifold for the solution immediately after bifurcation. A careful qualitative analysis, which is developed both for the linearized and the full nonlinear system, establishes the PT-symmetry property. In the last section of the present paper it is argued that the construction of periodic solutions leads to a proof of the appearance of the phase slip centers, that is, periodically appearing zeros of the order parameter.
