The authors start at the following result from [\textit{S. T. Mero, R. Nest} and \textit{E. Schrohe}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 561, 145--175 (2003; Zbl 1043.19003)]: The kernel of the principal symbol map for Boutet de Monvel's calculus is equal to the norm closure \(\mathcal G\) of the ideal of singular Green operators. \(\mathcal G\) fits into a short exact sequence \(0\to\mathcal K\to\mathcal G\to C(S^*Y)\otimes\mathcal K\to0\), where \(Y\) is the boundary of a compact manifold with the Boutet de Monvel's algebra, \(S^*Y\) is the cosphere bundle of \(Y\), and \(\mathcal K\) is the ideal of compact operators on \(L^2(Y)\) [\textit{S. T. Mero, T. Schick} and \textit{E. Schrohe}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 599, 217--233 (2006; Zbl 1121.19001)]. This is similar to the short exact sequence \(0\to \mathcal K_Y\to \Psi\to C(S^*Y)\to0\) for the algebra \(\Psi\) of all polyhomogeneous psedodifferential operators of order zero on \(Y\). The authors prove that \(\mathcal G\cong\Psi\otimes \mathcal K\). On the other hand, they define a groupoid whose \(C^*\)-algebra contains an ideal \(\mathcal T\) which fits in an extension analogous to that of \(\Psi\otimes\mathcal K\). By showing that the KK-theory elements induced by these extensions coincide, the authors infer, from a theorem by \textit{D. Voiculescu} [Rev. Roum. Math. Pures Appl. 21, 97--113 (1976; Zbl 0335.46039)], that \(\mathcal G\cong\mathcal T\).
