Let \(C\) be a smooth projective curve of genus \(g\). For a given line bundle \(L\in \text{Pic}^d(C)\) and \(h\geq 0\), \(J^hL\) denotes the bundle, of rank \(h+1\), of jets (or principal parts) of \(L\) of order \(h\). If \(0\leq i\leq h+1\), there is a natural epimorphism \(J^hL\rightarrow J^{h-i}L\), whose kernel is denoted by \(N_{h,i}(L)\). In the first part of the article under review the following results are proved: \(N_{h,i}(L)\) is generated by global sections for \(h\geq 1\) and \(1\leq i \leq h\), and \(J^hL\) is generated by global sections if and only if \(L\) is. Moreover, the bundles \(N_{h,i}(L)\) and \(J^{i-1}(L\otimes K^{\otimes h-i+1})\) are (non canonically) isomorphic, where \(K\) is the canonical line bundle on \(C\). In the second part, a generalization of the classical Wronski map is considered. It is defined on \(\Gamma_t(\rho_{r,d})\), where \(\rho_{r,d}:G(r+1, J^dL)\rightarrow C\) is the Grassmannian bundle of \((r+1)\)-dimensional subspaces of fibers of \(J^dL\), and \(\Gamma_t(\rho_{r,d})\) is a suitable subspace of the space of holomorphic sections of \(\rho_{r,d}\). In the case of a hyperelliptic curve, with \(\mathcal M\) the line bundle defining the \(g^1_2\) on \(C\), it is proved that the Wronski map \(\Gamma_t(\rho_{1,2})\rightarrow \mathbb PH^0(\mathcal M^{\otimes 2}\otimes K)\) is dominant.
