The paper under review provides a list of all minimal, anisotropic, algebraic groups over an algebraic number field. As a consequence one obtains that every cocompact lattice in a semisimple Lie group of \(\mathbb R\)-rank \(\geq 2\) without compact factors contains a subgroup isomorphic to a finite index subgroup of a lattice either in \(\text{SL}_2(\mathbb R)^n\times \text{SL}_2(\mathbb C)^m\) with \(n+m\geq 2\) or in \(\text{SL}_p(\mathbb R)^l\times \text{SL}_p(\mathbb C)^m\times \text{SU}_p(\mathbb C,f_1)\times \dots \times \text{SU}_p(\mathbb C,f_n)\) where the \(f_i\) are Hermitian forms of index at least \(l\). The analogous result for nonuniform lattices was proved in [\textit{V. Chernousov, L. Lifschitz} and \textit{D. Witte Morris}, Mich. Math. J. 56, No. 2, 453--478 (2008; Zbl 1175.22010)], which also provides more explanations about the relation between lattices and simple \(\mathbb Q\)-groups. The paper contains an appendix by V. Chernousov and A. Merkurjev about ``Isotropy of Hermitian forms over finite field extensions''.
