The setting in the paper of the first author [Quantum Topol. 3, No. 3--4, 293--325 (2012; Zbl 1268.53098)] is extended. In the new setting, the so called Hitchin connection is constructed and a metaplectic quantization is included. The starting point of the geometric quantization is a prequantum line bundle \((\mathcal{L},h,\nabla)\), where \(\mathcal{L}\) is a complex line bundle with Hermitian structure \(h\) and compatible connection \(\nabla\) with curvature \(-i\omega\) on the \(2m\)-dimensional symplectic manifold \((M,\omega)\). A Kähler polarization is chosen, endowing \((M,\omega)\) with a Kähler structure \(J\), such that the splitting \(TM_{\mathbb{C}}=T\oplus\bar{T}\) is obtained. By composing the connection \(\nabla\) with the projection onto the space \(\bar{T}\) of \(-i\)-eigenvalues of \(J\), an operator \(\bar{\partial}\) on \(C^{\infty}(M,\mathcal{L}^k\)) is obtained, whose holomorphic sections are covariant-constant along the directions of \(\bar{T}\). With the help of the square root operator \(\delta_J\) of the canonical bundle \(K_J=\wedge^mT^*\), the metaplectically corrected quantum phase spaces are holomorphic sections of \(\mathcal{L}\otimes\delta_J\). Denoting by \(\mathcal{T}\) the manifold parametrizing the family of Kähler structures, the authors consider the fibration \(H^{(k)}\) over \(\mathcal{T}\) with the quantum phase space for the given Kähler structure as fiber. In order to obtain a quantization independent of the choice of Kähler structures -- called Hitchin connection, the authors obtain a projectively flat connection in \(H^{(k)}\). The obtained theorem can be applied to moduli space flat \(\text{SU}(n)\) connections on a Riemann surface, the formula agreeing with previous works by \textit{E. Witten} [Commun. Math. Phys. 121, No. 3, 351--399 (1989; Zbl 0667.57005)], \textit{N. J. Hitchin} [Commun. Math. Phys. 131, No. 2, 347--380 (1990; Zbl 0718.53021)], \textit{S. Axelrod, S. Della Pietra} and \textit{E. Witten} [J. Differ. Geom. 33, No. 3, 787--902 (1991; Zbl 0697.53061)], the first author [loc. cit.]. Since this construction does not need the assumption that the first Chern class is proportional to the class of the symplectic form, or the compactness of \(M\), it is a generalization of the previous works of N. J. Hitchin [loc. cit.], \textit{P. Scheinost} and \textit{M. Schottenloher} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 466, 145--219 (1995; Zbl 0827.58010)] and the first author [loc. cit.].
