    Let \(X\) be a reflexive Banach space and \(C\) be a closed convex subset of \(X\). A multifunction \(F: C \rightarrow 2^X\) is said to be (i) nonexpansive if, for any \(x, x'\in C\) and each \(y\in F(x)\), there exists \(y^{\prime} \in F(x')\) such that \(\|y - y'\| \leq \| x - x'\|\); (ii) asymptotically contractive if there exists \(x_0\in C\) such that \(\limsup_{x\in C,\,\|x\| \rightarrow \infty}\frac{e(F(x), F(x_0))} {\| x-x_0\|} < 1\) (here, \(e(F(x), F(x_0))\) designates the excess of \(F(x)\) over \(F(x_0)\)). The authors establish a multivalued version of the main result in [\textit{J.-P. Penot}, ``A fixed-point theorem for asymptotically contractive mappings'', Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 131, No. 8, 2371--2377 (2003; Zbl 1035.47043)], proving that a nonexpansive multifunction \(F: C \rightarrow 2^C\) with nonempty closed values has a fixed point whenever the following conditions are satisfied: (i) \(F\) is asymptotically contractive at a point \(x_0\in C\) with \(F(x_0)\) bounded; (ii) \(I - F\) is demi-closed.
