The first new result of this paper is theorem 1.1. Let \(M^n\), \(n\geq 4\), be a complete non-compact manifold such that \(M\times \mathbb{R}^2\) has nonnegative isotropic curvature. Then \(M\) has nonnegative sectional curvature and is locally isometric to a product over its soul. Moreover, \(M\) is covered by \(N^k\times P^{n-k}\), where \(P^{n-k}\) is diffeomorphic to \(\mathbb{R}^{n-k}\) and \(N^k\) is a Riemannian product of manifolds \(N_i\) of the following types: (i) \(N_i=\mathbb{R}^i\) with its standard flat metric; (ii) \(N_i\) is diffeomorphic to a spherical space form; (iii) \(N_i^{2s}\) is a Kähler manifold biholomorphic to \(\mathbb{C}P^s\); (iv) \(N_i\) is isometric to a compact symmetric space. This result is applied to complete submanifolds of Euclidean space that have nonnegative isotropic curvature and subspaces of relative nullity. Then, two splitting theorems are derived.
