The authors deal with the Lawrence-Doniach model of superconductivity related to anisotropic superconductors with layered structure. In this model, the system is idealized as a network of equally spaced, parallel superconducting planes, and this system is subject to an external magnetic field either perpendicular or parallel to those superconducting planes. The authors study the asymptotic behavior of periodic minimizers of the Lawrence-Doniach energy functional as the layer thickness tends to zero and the Ginzburg-Landau parameter tends to infinity at the same time. When the applied magnetic field is perpendicular to the superconducting planes, the authors show that the vortices are vertically aligned to each plane. On the other hand, when the magnetic field is parallel to the planes, they show that there are two-parameter regimes in which the minimizers exhibit different characteristics.
