Given a rational, polyhedral fan \(\Sigma\) in some vector space \(\mathbb Q^n\), one usually constructs the toric \(\mathbb K\)-variety \(\text{TV}_\mathbb K(\Sigma)\) by glueing the affine pieces \(\text{TV}_\mathbb K(\sigma):=\text{Spec}\mathbb K[\sigma^{\vee}\cap\mathbb Z^n]\). Replacing the base field \(\mathbb K\) by \(\mathbb Z\), the author can define the scheme \[ \text{TV}_S(\Sigma):=\text{TV}_\mathbb Z(\Sigma)\times_\mathbb Z S \] for every given base scheme \(S\). Afterwards, in a slightly more general setup and using a heavily ``categorized'' language, he compares \(\text{TV}_S(\Sigma)\) to \(S\) (and \(\Sigma\)) with respect to several possible properties of schemes. Thus, the true subject of the paper is, for given schemes \(X\) and \(S\), to compare properties of \(X\times_\mathbb Z S\) with those of the factors.
