Let \(M\) be a multiplicative commutative monoid. Let \(\text{Spec}(M)\) be the prime spectrum of \(M\), i.e. the set of all prime ideals of \(M\), equipped with the Zariski topology. The first main result of the paper under review is the isomorphism of topological monoids \(\text{Spec}(M)\cong\Hom(M,\mathbb I)\), where \(\mathbb I\) is the multiplicative monoid \(\{0,1\}\) equipped with the topology \(\{\emptyset,\{1\},\mathbb I\}\) and \(\Hom(M,\mathbb I)\) is equipped with the topology induced from the product \(\prod_{m\in M}\mathbb I\). From this result the author deduces some corollaries, including the isomorphism \(\text{Spec}(M^{sl})\cong\text{Spec}(M)\) where \(M^{sl}\) denotes \(M\) modulo the congruence generated by \(m^2\sim m\), \(m\in M\). The second main result in the paper is the existence of an injective map from \(M^{sl}\) to \(\text{Spec}(M)\), and this map is bijective provided that \(M\) is finitely generated.
