Variations of space-like hypersurfaces in Lorentzian manifolds of constant negative sectional curvature \(-\kappa<0\) are studied. The evolution equation \[ \frac{d}{dt}F(p,t) = \phi(p,t)\nu(p,t),\qquad F(p,0) = F_0(p), \] with future-directed time-like unit normal \(\nu\) and \(\phi: M\rightarrow {\mathbb{R}}\), \[ \phi = \frac{1}{\sqrt{\kappa}}\sum^n_{i=1} \arctan\frac{\lambda_i}{\sqrt{\kappa}}, \] where \(\lambda_i\), \(i=1,\dots ,n\), are the principal curvatures of the immersion, is analyzed. Further, the Gauss map of a space-like surface \(M\) in the anti-De Sitter space-time \(\mathrm{AdS}_3\) is considered as a map \({\mathcal G}: M\rightarrow Gr_2^+(2,4)={\mathbb{H}}^2_{1/\sqrt{2}}\times {\mathbb{H}}^2_{1/\sqrt{2}}\) (into the Grassmannian of oriented planes in \({\mathbb R}^4_2\)). The relation between \(\phi\) and the Gauss map is explained. It is shown that the Gauss maps evolve under the Lagrangian mean curvature flow, if the space-like surfaces in \(\mathrm{AdS}_3\) evolve by the evolution equation above.
