    Let \(X\) be a Banach space with topological dual \(X^*\). A set-valued operator \(T: X\rightrightarrows X^*\) with effective domain \(\text{Edom\,}T= \{x\in\text{dom\,}T: T(x)\neq\{0\}\) is called quasimonotone if, for all \(x,y\in\text{Edom\,} T\), \[ \exists x^*\in T(x): \langle x^*, y-x\rangle> 0\Rightarrow\forall y^*\in T(y):\langle y^*,y- x\rangle\geq 0. \] The quasimonotone operator \(T\) is maximal quasimonotone if, for any quasimonotone operator \(\widehat T\) with \(T(x)\subseteq\text{cone\,}\widehat T(x)\), for all \(x\in\text{Edom\,}T\), one has \(\text{cone\,}T(x)= \text{cone\,}\widehat T(x)\) for all \(x\in\text{Edom\,} T\) and \(\text{Edom\,} T= \text{Edom\,}\widehat T\). In the present paper, the authors give algebraic and topological characterizations for quasimonotone and maximal quasimonotone operators. In Asplund spaces, sufficient conditions are provided that a quasisimonotone operator is single-directional on a \(G_\delta\)-dense subset.
