Let \(M\) be a compact space and let \(C(M)\) be the Banach space of all complex valued continuous functions on \(M\). The torus \(O(M) \subset C(M)\) is the set of all the continuous functions \(f \in C(M)\) such that \(|f(t)|=1\) for all \(t \in M\). In the case \(M \subset \mathbb{C}\), define \(Tf(t):=tf(t)\), \(t \in M\), \(f \in C(M)\). A compact subset \(M\) of the unit circle in \(\mathbb{C}\) is a Kronecker set if and only if, for every \(f \in O(M)\), the orbit of \(f\) by \(T\) is dense in \(O(M)\). The author proves that, if \(M\) is a Kronecker set, then, for each \(f\) in the open unit ball of \(C(M)\) and each \(g \in O(M)\), there is a sequence \((m_k)_k\) of natural numbers such that \(\lim\inf_{k \rightarrow \infty} \|T^{m_k} f - g/2\| \leq 1/2\). He also gives a negative answer to a problem proposed by \textit{E. Yu. Emel'yanov} in his book [Non-spectral asymptotic analysis of one-parameter operator semigroups. Operator Theory: Advances and Applications 173. Basel: Birkhäuser (2007; Zbl 1117.47001)].
