Let \(G\) be a smooth real-valued function on a domain \(\Omega\subset{\mathbb R}^n\). Let \(\Omega^+=\{x\in\Omega:G(x)>0\}\), \(\Omega^-=\{x\in\Omega:G(x)<0\}\), and \(\Omega^0=\{x\in\Omega:G(x)=0\}\). The authors consider a discontinuous system of differential equations \[ x'=f^{\pm}(x), \] where \(f^{\pm}(x)=f^+(x)\) for \(x\in\Omega^+\) and \(f^{\pm}(x)=f^-(x)\) for \(x\in\Omega^-\). It is assumed that this system has a nonsmooth homoclinic trajectory \(\gamma(t)\) such that \(\gamma(t)\to 0\in\Omega^0\) as \(|t|\to \infty\), \(\gamma(t)\in\Omega^+\) for \(t>0\), \(\gamma(t)\in\Omega^-\) for \(t<0\), and \(0\neq \gamma(0)\in\Omega^0\). They give Mel'nikov type conditions under which a perturbed system \[ x'=f^{\pm}(x)+\varepsilon g(t,x,\varepsilon) \] with small \(\varepsilon\) has a trajectory homoclinic to the origin and close to \(\gamma(t)\). A continuous variant of the problem (with \(\gamma(t)\in\Omega^+\) for all \(t\)) is also treated.
