If \((M,\xi,\eta,\Phi,g)\) is a Sasakian manifold with almost contact-complex structure \(\Phi\) and \((N,J)\) is an almost complex manifold with almost-complex structure \(J\), a map \(f: M \rightarrow N\) is called \((\Phi,J)\)-holomorphic if \(df\circ \Phi=J\circ df\). In this article, the authors study \((\Phi,J)\)-holomorphic (and anti-holomorphic) maps from Sasakian manifolds to almost Hermitian manifolds. Such a map must be basic, and if the target \((N,J,h)\) is Kähler, it must be harmonic, generalizing a classical result for holomorphic maps between Kähler manifolds. If the target \((N,J,h)\) of the \((\Phi,J)\)-holomorphic map \(f\) is Hermitian, and if the source \((M,\xi,\eta,\Phi,g)\) is complete, the authors prove a general Schwarz lemma for \(f\) under some curvature assumptions for \(h\) and \(g\). Their result adapts to the \((\Phi,J)\)-holomorphic setting a result by \textit{S.-T. Yau} [Am. J. Math. 100, 197--203 (1978; Zbl 0424.53040)]. In a last section, the authors introduce a homotopy invariant for basic maps from Sasakian manifolds to Kähler manifolds and show that a \((\Phi,J)\)-holomorphic (or anti-holomorphic) map is the energy minimal map in its basic homotopy class.
