Let \(K\) be a CM field of degree \(2g\) over \(\mathbb{Q}\). Let \(K_0\) be its maximal real subfield and let \(A\) be an abelian variety over a finite field \(k\) of characteristic \(p>0\) endowed with CM by \(K\). The author shows that if every prime \(\mathfrak{p}\) of \(K_0\) over \(p\) remains prime in \(K\) then \(A\) is isogenous to a product of supersingular curves. If, moreover, \(p\) splits in \(K_0\) then \(A\) is isomorphic to a product of supersingular elliptic curves. On the other hand, the author shows that if \(p\) splits completely in \(K\) then \(A\) is ordinary. The author applies these results to the case where \(A\) is the Jacobian of a curve \(C\). The proof reduces the statement to a problem on \(p\)-divisible groups and then Dieudonné theory is used to obtain the result.
