Let \(G\) be an abelian group and consider, for unknown function \(f \colon G\to G\), the functional equation \[ f\bigl(x+2f(y)\bigr)+ f\bigl(y+2f(x) \bigr)=2f(x)+2f(y)+x+y. \] In his paper, the author gives the solutions of this equation under some weak regularity properties. One of the main results states that if \(G\) is an abelian topological group in which the neighborhoods of the neutral element are absorbing and the interior of the fixed points of a solution \(f\) is non-empty, then \(f\) is the identity. Another result concerns the case \(G=\mathbb C\); in this setting, the analytic solutions turn out to be either the identity, or minus half times the identity.
