    An areal analogue of Mahler measure for polynomial \(P \in \mathbb{C}[z]\) was defined by Pritsker as \[ \log ||P||_0=\frac{1}{\pi} \int\int_{D} \log|P(z)|\, dA, \] where the integral is taken over the closed unit disc \(D\) (whose area is \(\pi\)). Pritsker showed that they are related with classical Mahler measure in view of \[ \log ||P||_0=\log M(P) +\frac{1}{2} \sum_{|z_n|<1}(|z_n|^2-1), \] so that \(-\deg P/2+\log M(P) \leq \log ||P||_0 \leq \log M(P).\) In this paper the authors show that for each \(P \in \mathbb{C}[z]\) satisfying \(|P(0)|=1\) we have \(\log ||P||_0 \leq \log^2 M(P)\). They also show that if \(Z(P)\) is the number of roots of \(P\) that lie inside the open unit disc then \[ \frac{\log^2 M(P)}{Z(P)} \leq \log ||P||_0 \Big(1+ \sum_{k=1}^{\infty} \Big(\sum_{\ell=1}^{k+1} \frac{1}{\ell(k+2-\ell)}-\frac{1}{k+2}\Big)\log^{k/2} ||P||_0\Big). \]
