The Noether number \(\beta(G)\) of a finite group \(G\) is \(\sup_V \beta(G, V )\), where \(V\) ranges over finite dimensional \(G\)-modules \(V\) over a fixed base field \(\mathbb F\), and \(\beta(G, V)\) is the smallest integer \(d\) such that the algebra \(\mathbb F[V]^G := \{ f \in \mathbb F[V ]: f^g = f, \forall g\in G\}\) of polynomial invariants is generated by its elements of degree at most \(d\). By Noether's classic result we have \(\beta(G)\leq |G|\) if char(\(\mathbb F)=0\). In this paper is given the precise value of Noether number \(\beta(G)\) for any non-cyclic group \(G\) containing a cyclic subgroup of index 2. The authors prove that for these groups the difference \(\beta(G)-\frac{1}{2}|G|\) equals 1 or 2.
