The present work discusses the question of global well-posedness for the defocusing energy-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the 3-sphere. The authors apply the method introduced in [\textit{A. D. Ionescu} and \textit{B. Pausader}, Commun. Math. Phys. 312, No. 3, 781--831 (2012; Zbl 1253.35159); Duke Math. J. 161, No. 8, 1581-1612 (2012, Zbl 1245.35119)]. However, the crucial and novel point in this paper is the proof of an extinction lemma for the linear flow, which improves the Sobolev inequality for the linear flow, and a bound on the interaction between a high-frequency linear wave and a low frequency profile. The main result reads: For any \(u_0\in H^1(\mathbb{S}^3)\), there exists a unique global strong solution satisfying \(u(0)=u_0\). In addition, if \(u_0\in H^s\) for some \(s\geq 1\), then \(u\in C(\mathbb{R};H^s)\). This result extends the global existence result for subquintic nonlinearities in [\textit{N. Burq} et al., Am. J. Math. 126, No. 3, 569--605 (2004; Zbl 1067.58027)] and the local existence result for quintic nonlinearities in [\textit{S. Herr}, Am. J. Math. 135, No. 5, 1271--1290 (2013, Zbl 1278.58006)].
