Chebyshev polynomials can be defined via recurrence relations or equations using trigonometric polynomials of the type \(\cos (n\arccos x)\). Their zeros are important for good choices (i.e., guaranteeing small Lebesgue constants) of points for polynomial interpolation. In this article, a very interesting generalisation using instead of the above a definition \(\cos(n/(1-\beta/2-\gamma/2) \cdot \arccos (x-\pi\gamma/2))\) is used, the classical case appearing when both \(\gamma\) and \(\beta\) vanish. The authors show about these polynomials what the generating functions are, establish the Christoffel Darboux formula and compute Lebesgue constants. They also show that the new, generalised Chebyshev functions are solutions of a Sturm Liouville boundary value problem.
