The authors introduce new classes of distributions based upon suitable translation invariant Banach spaces \(E.\) Section 3 studies the class of Banach spaces \(E\) that satisfy (i) \({\mathcal D}({\mathbb R}^n)\subset E \subset {\mathcal D}^ \prime({\mathbb R}^n)\) with continuous inclusions, (ii) \(E\) is translation invariant, and (iii) there are constants \(M>0\) and \(\tau\geq 0\) such that \(\|T_h\|\leq M\left(1+\|h\|\right)^ \tau\) for all \(h\in {\mathbb R}^ n\), where \(T_h\) denotes the translation operator on \(E\) given by \((T_hg)(x) = g(x+h)\). The growth function of the translation group is \(\omega(h) = \|T_h\|\). It turns out that \(E\) is a convolution Banach module over the Beurling algebra \(L^1_\omega\). As proved in Theorem 2, the Banach space \(E'_\ast = L^1_{\check{\omega}}\ast E'\) (which is a closed subspace of \(E'\)) is also a Banach module over \(L^1_{\check{\omega}}\). Moreover, if \(E\) is reflexive, then \(E'_\ast = E'\). The new distribution space \({\mathcal D}^\prime_{E'_\ast}\) is introduced in Section 4 as the strong dual of the Fréchet space \({\mathcal D}_E\) consisting of those tempered distributions for which all partial derivatives belong to \(E\). Some structural properties of \({\mathcal D}^\prime_{E'_\ast}\) are obtained, in particular, a characterization in terms of convolution averages and as finite sums of derivatives of elements of \(E'\) (Theorem 3). Several important examples are discussed in Section 5, which generalize the classical Schwartz spaces \({\mathcal D}_{L^p}\) and \({\mathcal D}^\prime_{L^p}.\) The final Section 6 studies convolution and multiplicative products in \({\mathcal D}^\prime_{E'_\ast}.\) Applications of the results of this paper to the study of boundary values of holomorphic functions in tube domains have been obtained by the same authors [Complex Var. Elliptic Equ. 60, No. 9, 1169--1189 (2015; Zbl 1337.46033)].
