The main result of the paper is the fact that the Riesz transform \(R_M\) is a bounded operator on \(L^p(L^2(M))\) for all \(1<p<\infty\) where \(M\) is a compact Riemannian symmetric space of rank one. While it was known that the Riesz transform \(R_M\) is a bounded operator on \(L^p(M)\), \(1<p<\infty\), the fact that it is bounded on the mixed-norm is a new result. This result is interesting since the space \(L^p(L^2(M))\) is larger than \(L^p(M)\). The decomposition of the five types of compact Riemannian symmetric spaces of rank one in polar coordinates allow for this mixed-normed result as explained in more details in [the authors, Adv. Math. 235, 627--647 (2013; Zbl 1297.43011)]. The main result is proven under the assumption that suitable weighted vector-valued extensions of the Jacobi-Riesz and Jacobi operators are developed. These extensions are proven later after an adaptation of the extrapolation theorem by Rubio de Francia is shown. The application of the extrapolation result depends in turn on kernel estimates for the Jacobi-Riesz and Jacobi transforms. The latter results, which are uniform in the parameters and require fairly extensive computations, are of interest in themselves.
