The paper deals with antiplane shear deformation of a cylinder in contact with a rigid foundation. The novelty of the paper consists in modelling the contact with the Tresca friction law for a viscoelastic material with long-term memory. The internal term in the motion equation is neglected so that the analyzed problem is quasistatic. The main result of the paper consists in a proof of the existence and the uniqueness of a weak solution to this problem. The technique of proof is based on arguments of evolutionary variational inequalities and the Banach fixed point theorem. From the overall twenty pages of the paper, six pages describe the classical formulation of the problem, five pages deal with deriving of the weak formulation and six pages prove the main existence result. Although the paper gives a strong theoretical background, the tasks of deriving analytic solutions or solutions computed numerically remain open.
