A Hankel matrix is a matrix \(M=(M_{ij})\) such that \(M_{ij}=M_{kl}\) whenever \(i+j=k+l\), that is, its entries only depend on which anti-diagonal they are on. A Hankel tensor generalizes this to higher dimensions, meaning that the \(i_1,\dots,i_n\)-entry depends only on \(\sum_j i_j\). The paper at hand studies generic \(s\)-Hankel hypermatrices (used synonymously with tensor) for which the the entry indexed by \(i_1,\dots,i_n\) depends only on \(\sum_{j=1}^s i_j\) and \(i_{s+1},\dots, i_n\). More precisely, the paper studies ideals generated by sets of 2-minors of such matrices. These ideals being binomial ideals, there are many combinatorial structures to be discovered. The paper in particular contains information about Gröbner bases, Hilbert functions, and primary decompositions. The results generalize various results on Hankel matrices and tensors, in particular a theorem of Watanabe on the isomorphism classes of coordinate rings of Hankel matrices of different formats [\textit{J. Watanabe}, Proc. Sch. Sci. Tokai Univ. 32, 11--21 (1997; Zbl 0878.13013)].
