    Let \(D\) be a domain in \(\mathbb C^n\) and \(w, z \in D\). If there exist holomorphic functions \(f:\mathbb D \to D\) and \(F: D\to \mathbb D\) such that \(f\) passes through \(w\) and \(z\) and \(F\circ f = \text{id}_{\mathbb D}\), then \(f\) is called a complex geodesic and \(F\) a left inverse of \(f\). By an example it is shown that in the Euclidean (two-dimensional) ball, complex geodesics are uniquely determined whereas the left inverses are non-uniquely determined. In the bidisc however non-uniquely determined geodesics determine uniquely the left inverses. In the paper the authors extend this to general domains as follows: If \(D\) is a strongly linearly convex domain in \(\mathbb C^n\) (\(n\geq 2\)), any complex geodesic has many left inverses (Theorem 3.1), whereas if \(D\) is a convex domain, the non-uniqueness of geodesics implies the uniqueness of left inverses (Theorem 4.1). In the remainder of the paper the authors study the question of uniqueness of left inverses in the symmetrized bidisc and in the tetrablock.
